a wonderful addition to your family

About the Ragdoll Breed

A Large & Playful Breed

They adore to be around people they are easy to be with. The more love and attention you provide a ragdoll the more you get back. There name comes from the supposed limpness (ragdoll-like) behaviour they demonstrate whilst being picked up. Ragdoll cats are known for their easy going nature. The beautiful Ragdoll Cat for many has it all: big blue eyes, a sweet face, silky coat and heart- melting soul. In return for their loyalty, the only one thing the Ragdoll cat asks is to be part of your world.

Ragdoll Breed Variations

Mink, Sepia and Solid are much harder to come across than the Traditional Ragdoll types. Firstly, this is because many breeders do not include them in their breeding programs, preferring to work with the traditional types only. Secondly, a Mink Ragdoll kitten is harder to produce. Only 50% of a litter can be Mink. A Ragdoll Breeder specializing in Mink, Sepia and Solid color Ragdoll Kittens will generally charge more for this type than the Traditional Ragdoll kitten, claiming that their rarity makes them much more valuable.

Minks are a particular type of Ragdoll cat. The terms Mink and Sepia do not refer to a colour or a pattern. It is not a different breed, either. Instead, it refers to a bloodline that goes back all the way to the very first Ragdoll cats created by the first breeders of Ragdoll cats. They are purebred Ragdoll cats, as confirmed by SBT and TICA. While most breeders use traditional Ragdoll cats, a few breed traditional Ragdolls and minks.

Temperament

Mink/Sepia Ragdolls have the same well-reputed dog like personality of the traditional Ragdoll breed. Their personality is just as floppy, friendly, and docile as all Ragdoll cats. This is the most important characteristic and is undoubtedly present in Minks.

Physical Characteristics

Their fur might be smoother to the touch and richer in contrast, and their eyes might be a different colour. Mink/Sepia Ragdolls and traditional Ragdolls have a very diverse colour spectrum and a wide variety of patterns.

Genetics

Minks/Sepias come from a specific bloodline of Ragdoll cats that goes down to the first Ragdolls cats. Only half of the litter comprises Minks when two Minks are bred together. These cats are rare but have very high genetic value for the Ragdoll cat breed.

FAQs

Ragdolls are known for their inquisitive nature, and for this reason, Ragdolls cannot be allowed to roam free. They are not ‘streetwise’ cats and with such a trusting nature could easily get themselves into serious danger. They should be always supervised if allowed into the garden, preferably within an enclosure.

A sensitive breed, Ragdolls will suffer if left alone for long periods of time, and if they are not given plenty of affection.

Ragdoll cats love to play! Cat trees, tunnels, cat cubes are all suitable to provide stimulation and enrichment inside your home.

Grooming is essential, a Ragdoll cat requires a brush a couple of times a week, care should be taken especially under the legs to prevent matting. Ragdolls usually love being groomed and this can be an enjoyable experience for both cat and owner.
